Midwifery Finishing School
A 7-week online course to close the gaps in your midwifery education
Your Springboard to Confidence
So, you just spent a few years studying midwifery and you feel like you learned so much (because you did!) and now you’ve started your practice and realize there’s SO MUCH MORE to learn. Being a new midwife can be overwhelming and humbling but I don’t think it needs to take so long to go from novice to expert. So I created Midwifery Finishing School (MFS) to speed up the process!
How? MFS is a 7-week online course for newer or student midwives and its full of the un-Googleable knowledge and decision-making skills that you probably didn’t get from school or your apprenticeship; training in phone triage, miscarriage management and alternative treatments for clients with mild cervical dysplasia, even self care for birth workers, just to name a few. I didn’t include anything I remember from school, just pro-tips I’ve learned from 20 years of experience, research, courses and reading. I’ve even added client handouts and algorithms on everything from gestational diabetes to bacterial vaginosis to make this course one big midwifery hack.
When in doubt, you’ll have a handout!

MFS mean fewer feelings of helplessness for you and your clients
Do you know these stats?
-
7% of people who give birth will experience postpartum thyroiditis
-
Approximately 40% of people are MTHFR positive which can cause pre-eclampsia, depression, and placental abruption, just to name a few things
-
About 20-25% of people will experience postpartum mood disorders (often caused by thyroid problems and contributed to by MTHFR gene mutation)
-
Black and indigenous birthing people and their children (at least in the US and UK) are dying at rates 3-4 times higher than their white counterparts and those numbers are getting worse.
Yes, your clients will experience those statistics personally! Are you prepared to give excellent care? Birthing families benefit SO MUCH from a provider who is well educated on these issues, their remedies and when to refer that I believe all midwives should have a working knowledge from the get go. Together, with this knowledge, we could fill some gaping holes in OBGYN care.
This is what I get the most excited about teaching!!! I’ve included meticulously detailed instructions on how to properly test for and treat the thyroid and MTHFR gene mutation, as well as more in-depth knowledge about natural ways to address postpartum mood disorders and post-miscarriage care, giving specific doses and algorithms and siting sources as I go.
I also give the basics about black maternal and infant mortality. I don’t go nearly as in depth as the topic deserves because there are plenty of black birth workers and activists who have wonderful courses in place and they deserve the money and credit for educating us about their community. I will point you in the direction of necessary reading and courses that I have benefited from.

Continued Mentorship
Apprenticeships are wonderful and necessary but you couldn’t possibly learn everything you need for your own practice in the time-span you work under another midwife. You learn a lot but if you’re like me, you completed midwifery school, 330+ births, a few apprenticeships, an internship and 1½ years of working at a busy birth center and had still NEVER managed a miscarriage or an abnormal pap, or heard a midwife discuss ways to reduce birth trauma with their clients.
If you’re like me, you then found yourself in private practice with no more mentorship but SO MANY MORE QUESTIONS.
Midwifery Finishing School is THE bridge between apprenticeship and solo practice.
It’s 7 weeks of classes and Q&A. It’s the answers to questions that aren’t google-able. It’s all the nuances I’ve collected from 20 years of attending births. For a complete list of the topics covered, check out the syllabus page here!

Who is Midwifery Finishing School For?
Whether you’re a CNM, CM, CPM or LM, this course was made with student or new-ish midwives in mind! A more experienced midwife who wants to learn how to test and treat the thyroid, provide MTHFR testing, follow up testing and treatments or what follow up testing is applicable for clients experiencing recurrent miscarriage would also learn a tremendous amount. Some doulas have even enjoyed taking this course. Basically, it’s for anyone who wants to:
-
Gain more confidence in their practice
-
Enjoy midwifery mentorship and community
-
Elevate and add services to their care
